Poor Richard Manuel of The Band hanged himself in a state of despair in 1986, but he sure commands the respect of visitors to Snobsite.com. Patsi Bale Cox of Nashville, Tennessee, citing our explanation of who Manuel was in Greil Marcus's most recent contribution to The Nitpicker's Corner, writes in to Snobbishly complain, "Anybody who needs to be told who Richard Manuel is shouldn't be reading your blog in the first place." Patsi, you're a Snob of the first order! Greil would be proud. But sorry, ladies, we know Greil, and he's happily married.
And Jim Collis of London, England, took offense at our launch-day suggestion that The Band's surviving members reunite to sing a doctored version of "King Harvest (Has Surely Come)" called "King Rock Snob (Has Surely Come)." Says Jim, "Richard Manuel sang that song, and neither Levon Helm nor Robbie Robertson could do its vocal justice." Jim, why you gotta be hatin' on Helm?
