A difficult, verbose reader who identifies himself as Ray of Bleecker Street writes, "While I appreciate the need to keep each entry brief, punchy and bereft of any frills (a lesson that The Minutemen taught us so brilliantly), I'm sure that the omission of Nils Lofgren from the Crazy Horse entry [p. 26] will spark significant controversy. Admittedly, he didn't play on all of their records or tour dates. However, his haunting piano work on After The Gold Rush, the always-literate six-string virtuosity on CH's eponymous album, the beatific harmonies on other essential cuts in the Crazy Horse canon, and the bedrock rhythms that anchored their legendary 1973 European tour, entitle him to enshrinement among his brethren." Except, Ray, Lofgren was never truly an "official" member of Crazy Horse, more of a floating adjunct to the band in the manner of JACK NITZSCHE, Andrew Oldham's favorite keyboardist-arranger. If, however, you want to count Nils as an essential member of Ringo's All-Starr Band, be our guest.
